Guys you guys yeah. I did I did a national thing over the weekend just kind of like to preview the civil war yeah. And the guy got mad me because I kept bringing you guys up -- you wanna talk about being the ducks and how. You know it's this is kind of what baby's expecting out of them and how no one really knows about you guys in this so unexpected and I -- the fact that you guys had a chance to play for the Rose Bowl last year any basic called me a liar. They -- question they -- to go to the -- or some like this is the second year in a row they control their own destiny get to the Rose -- I think people may not be paid attention but -- a pretty good -- there -- immediately just goes right back to talking about this'll be in the --

A you'll you'll have I -- my children at it's good though keeps you keeps you as the as deal underdog gets a better place to be.

You know I'd I'd love our I'd love our vantage points from for the beavers you know today and that of course they're little bit of blame for that because we started. Slower again and block. Some games early -- The like -- somebody this ordinance that proved all the sudden here we are -- plane press conference championship it's it's it's good it's quite match.

Or against statement that I I was gonna we're -- this Mike in Iowa I'm gonna start here in animal. Did you get. -- 321. -- the war for the -- course of the war of the roses they've changed the name it's so big it's no longer visible war war of the -- a pretty decent flick I think that the Michael Douglas pitcher if I'm not mistaken I don't know if it's on that level but -- head coach at Oregon State is they get set to take on organ of the civil war for all the marbles coming up this Thursday as Mike Riley and he joins our show what is your holiday consist of their coach --

Well it was a it was very nice holiday and I I wish we could play the civil war like this every year guy -- not like that Thanksgiving buying. You know some games on the weekend start practicing and then that play whenever the next week I think it I think applaud them for everybody that. I had we have a nice Thanksgiving and -- staff and players over that and just simply it's been great I'm I'm really thankful for this 2009 B thirteen.

Well in the staff and players are all together for Thanksgiving like you said the Hoffman does this game come up or do you guys get off topic they're having you guys talk about other things or is that -- constantly about this big game --

Well you know it's usually about football. If it meant and but power. Players it's it's it's not you know in the it would that we like this approaches -- stayed around after we -- and stuff we knew we talk about football watch the because that's so we love Billy -- And it pre -- in enjoy it but that. Players you know it. One thing we forget wants -- tell you just hear talk and and indicted I'll be -- year young people kids you know also they got a million things going on it's always it's always sign. And of that appreciated that brings you back a little bit of the real stuff going on.

Is this a program defining game for you.

Absolutely. You know and and indeed know what the guy I think that. It its defining and it's probably name more defining. From the outside you know I think that. We have a definition from within this program as far as values and in winning that was you know where we're trying to. Head and all that stuff but wrapped -- probably from the outside you know ability would be it would be defining for people that felt more about us and we are what we do so it would be big that way -- I'm very comfortable with what as far as the definition of our program from what we've done in the world war where were still had it.

Yeah I made the argument we actually both did last week that this was a bigger game for you guys in fact I was doing a national radio interview over the weekend kind of preview in the civil war and and the guy just kept going on about the ducks the -- the ducks and how it was kind of expected of them in this is so out of the norm for you guys when I brought -- the fact that this is the second year in a row you're gonna play for the Rose Bowl. I basically control your destiny. He basically called me a liar there's a perception out there even though the records are very similar over the last ten years that organ. Is on a different level than you guys and I made the argument that you guys need this game in order to change that perception that somehow you are a step below work.

Well that that is that is interesting improbably very area. True you know in in a lot of ways well like I said from the from the outside from the national attention from those kinds of things that's probably a fact that it and that would be a very good residual. Obviously not the focal point for what we'd do here dated today at what our -- disliked it and where we're still continues to head this program.

What's not -- Oregon State coach Mike Riley on 1080 defend the civil war Thursday were inviting you to be with us a Buffalo Wild Wings in wood village. For our show land big game now as the head coach how much of a sense ten you get through practice. And how well your team will play in a game.

You know I -- idea and definitely that -- they're very good question there's a lot to that question because. We always joke about that for years and years you know already a player married to play were you know it it if it were always worried about. You know I've kind of looked at it. From you know kind of had dated day. Focus on the preparation of what we're doing and -- looks. -- And I usually start out on Tuesday saying that look somewhat like football and and hopefully by Thursday that was a good practice you know. And that -- kind of be a kind of like through that -- through the week of of how it looks but I really. But that from. The day we started you know practicing for this game right after watching and state that obviously the focus is good in the and the execution has been gonna complain what speed is always a good indicator of -- gonna look in the game's leapt over a bit about that.

gives you a different look than what really most of the teams you play. Will give you got the course the year how do you best. Go about mimicking that in practice or giving your players prepare for the unique challenge of what organs offense gives you.

Very difficult to do what you're saying because you know you're talking about Jeremiah. Solely you know print what in one way. Because. You know you're you're looking at a guy -- in. That runs that offense so well and then they can run so well and can play also well so you need to find that guy on your scalping them if impossible.

Who's played in this week.

Well we had to do different things normally we have Glover shot Reynolds who was a spread quarterback in high schools -- quarter of forest. Try to simulate some of the running parts of the offense and then we had that our our young quarterback Jack Lomax and Cody -- Stimulate the throwing part of it and hopefully. Putting those people together. Will give us a chance to have some preparation for the game ready it is. It is unbelievable on it always is on doable got into really duplicate the other team but you're getting looks -- assignments are gaining. Some of that stuff hopefully get ready for -- again.

you wanna make him try to throw the football to --

Well you know he -- brawl but here's the deal for us philosophically I would have said -- seven years ago and -- took. That the week you've got to stop the run in football you know not stop at that control you know Iraq and stop their running game back. You know I think they had eight major plays against us last year it is just -- with big plays at a major factor in games you know usually. You look at games that you held that other team to their biggest gain being in less than 25 yards you probably have won agreement and of course we gave up eight of those last year and -- So you know that would be key factor but but controlling the run trying to be a good run defense. It's always a goal margin it's Paramount in this game and then try to get in the good passing situations and see what he can do.

with the Oregon State coach Mike Riley 1080 the fan how they give an advantage is it for organ playing --

Well. You know I think the initial that you look at there we get a pit road. This year I've been proud of our team you know and I first got a glimpse of this team who might could be -- went to Arizona State early. And they had just come back from Georgia played a heck of -- game and it looked that. It looked very very good -- And that when we went down we played well and I was I was really proud of our team -- and I got a glimpse of what -- could be. And and that but Oregon is different because of that of that crowd and noise. And -- poised as a major factor in this game and it. In their panic. As far as. It's been able to him -- embrace and that handle. The situation of the emotion of -- does that actual tangible noise that you have to deal with I think it has an average of four. Procedure penalties on the opponents because -- noise throughout the year so you know it obviously is a factor that you got to the only handled so you can. Give yourself a chance to execute execute don't handle that you'll be able --

Now do you piped in noise in practice me how do you prepare for that --

Well there's two things that we do you can't ever simulate exactly how loud that place it is but. The -- one thing we start out with this we do it silent -- You know work so whisper cadence where only hopefully the quarterback center can hear somebody else's reaction vote. And then weeks like we will we took like three periods yesterday so about forty minutes of actual piped in noise to this stadium. -- run and our team drills and that. We did two minute drill like that against their defense and three other periods like that so saying it's disruptive that it's in knowing that it intended to be. You know -- as to make guys focus and concentrated get a glimpse of what they're gonna get in the game.

Best -- to the crowd to score early.

Exactly right -- exactly right I think that that. That that you know we with every coach would like to get that start but that's always very important when -- plane and somebody else's park.

How big a factor is it this year versus last the fact you've got number one back there this year.

Well I think it's great I think it's the you know it's an identity parking. Because you know philosophically would unite talked beating here at the beavers have to run the ball and and no we've got a great runner as they do so that it's going to be great one for fans they are great running back and we used to it it's. It's a foundation points for our offense so -- haven't quit playing in the game. Is obviously a big big deal for the beavers.

Not giving your history growing up with this bribery I mean what do you think when you sit back and have a second to ponder and see what this has become.

I think I absolutely. Shake my head because you know when your kid you know. I never dreamed of getting decode of these teams and I said this week and I don't mean to be dramatic but it's a privilege to coach in this game and a coach at Oregon State I'd love it you know and I have reflected on -- I've been asked about it and it's. It is it is absolutely real one of the reasons I absolutely love this job is -- have been a part of my life. From the long as I can remember and I'm thankful for that then. And so did we see this game. We're both teams play into the multiple. You know from where it was like in the eighties and stuff. It is is absolutely awesome for everybody likes football and arsenic.

I mean did in the stir controversy here at there anything out nearly -- the civil war we but he talked about how much you love it here and we're discussing this last year with. You know -- salary he's ending different kinds of jobs do you envision this being your last stop are you gonna be this -- this team and for as long as they'll have you.

Yes that's did exactly right that's what you know I've I've experienced a kind of fun things and good things and I've really enjoyed. This profession and now. I've learned a lot you know Lions you know that the one thing his visit here happy -- stay happy you know there's not greener pastures and I do. Have a special feel for this place and and that. More particularly this -- you know by I think I've got a great group of guys here and they're good coaches are good people and we are truly one you know I do most of the interviews but that they are. They with myself for all part of this program and so I'm thankful for that in. And I couldn't ask for anymore anywhere else so I -- just wanna continue to. Make this a good place for young people to grow and to win games that's that's what we're doing.

Well said but if Notre Dame calls tomorrow and they have fired Charlie Weis and the -- got at least listen right.

No you know I don't think so because that's not fair to anybody you know I've I really would be up front was what my goals are and I and I got a I've got a situation here that that you know I've I've got a lot of people around me that like what they're Dylan in I'm -- likes it and you know I've I've been through a lot of different things in my -- I've I've learned what Matt Light -- what I wanted to do it and we can do right here.

I love it. Big game on Thursday really appreciates karma not ten minutes to talk to us about it coach Mike Riley always a class act thinks -- beyond. I talked again Mike thinks we're like.
